Use a contact sensor for a defined opening; consider vibration sensing when movement or tilt of the object is the useful event.
A cabinet door opening and a drawer being disturbed are not identical questions. Start with the action you want the system to notice rather than picking whichever sensor looks easier to hide.
Aqara's vibration sensor and door sensor need a compatible hub, but their mounting and event behaviour differ. Check the manufacturer's supported uses and test normal handling before building a notification around the signal.
A meaningful alert should help someone decide what to do. Avoid buying extra sensors just to collect every minor movement. Neither device should be described as a certified security or life-safety system merely because it can trigger an app notification.
Before you order
- Name the exact event to detect.
- Check supported mounting and hub requirements.
- Test ordinary handling and nuisance alerts.
A useful next step
Choose the event and response before choosing the sensor.
