A damp basement needs measurements before remote switching

A basement that feels damp after rain may have a different problem from one that stays humid all summer. Put a meter in a representative position and observe the pattern alongside weather, doors and appliance use. Avoid placing it directly in the dehumidifier's discharge air.

Check the appliance's electrical demand, starting behavior, manufacturer guidance and behavior after power returns. Often the useful first purchase is a meter and a better operating routine. If humidity persists despite appropriate operation, investigate the building conditions rather than adding increasingly elaborate automation around an unresolved moisture source.
