Buy a contact sensor when the opening itself is useful; use a supported access system separately when identity matters.
A front-door opening can trigger a welcoming light or a reminder to check the entrance. It cannot, by itself, tell whether the person was a family member, cleaner or visitor.
Aqara and SwitchBot contact sensors provide different supported ecosystem routes. Compare mounting, hub requirements and the routine you want, then label the notification honestly. 'Door opened' is more useful than an unsupported assumption that someone arrived safely.
Keep the first setup focused. If identity or permission records are part of the brief, investigate the exact lock's supported logs and account workflow. Do not add an unnecessary camera merely to compensate for a poorly defined sensor question.
Before you order
- Choose the event the notification should describe.
- Check mounting and ecosystem requirements.
- Separate opening state from identity.
A useful next step
Describe the information you need before selecting the entrance devices.
