Start with separately controlled bedside lamps and agree what the shared room command should do.
When one person reads and the other sleeps, the purchase question is less about colour choice than control boundaries. Decide which lamp belongs to each side and whether a room-wide command may change both. This prevents a convenient scene from becoming a nightly disagreement.
Two suitable Hue bulbs can remain distinct devices in the supported lighting setup. The Bridge and chosen physical controls should make each side easy to operate without reopening a phone. Account permissions and voice commands also deserve a quick household discussion before pairing everything.
Try the useful states in sequence: both awake, one person reading and everyone leaving. Check spill from each lamp shade rather than judging the bulb in a product photograph. Keep the existing ordinary controls understandable so a guest or partner can still find light when the routine changes.
Before you order
- Check the sockets of both bedside lamps.
- Label each side clearly in the app.
- Decide which controls may affect both lamps.
A useful next step
Build a two-lamp list and choose the physical controls needed on each side.
