Use a motion sensor for passing activity; consider supported presence sensing where people stay seated.
A hallway visit and an evening reading in a chair are different events. Motion can be a practical trigger for the first. In the second, asking someone to wave to keep the light on defeats the point of the upgrade.
Aqara P1 and FP1E make a useful shortlist for these different jobs. Both need their supported Aqara hub arrangements, but they should not be treated as the same sensor with different styling.
Start with the room that has the clearest problem. Place the candidate where the manufacturer intends and test ordinary seated use before making lighting depend on it.
Before you order
- Separate pass-through and seated activity.
- Check hub and mounting requirements.
- Test the actual chair and lighting routine.
A useful next step
Choose the sensing method before ordering multiple units.
