Get the property owner's approval and define restoration before selecting a retrofit or replacement lock.
A smart lock can be convenient in a rented home, but product fit and permission are separate questions. Photograph the existing hardware, check the agreement and ask who must retain access. Do not interpret an interior retrofit as automatic approval.
If U200 suits the existing mechanism, retaining compatible outside hardware may help the brief. If replacement is permitted, a suitable U100 door can be considered separately. Keep the original parts labelled and agree who owns the new device.
Move-out matters too. Plan removal, account reset and any cosmetic repair before purchase. A modest installation with a clear handback can be a better choice than a more elaborate setup that becomes a dispute when the tenancy ends.
Before you order
- Obtain written installation permission.
- Agree access and device ownership.
- Document restoration and account removal.
A useful next step
