Choose a compatible contact sensor for opening state; choose a camera only when seeing the scene adds real value.
A camera view can be difficult to interpret when all you need is whether a window or door is open. It also introduces a larger privacy and recording decision than a simple contact state.
Eve Door & Window and Aqara P2 are candidates within supported Matter-over-Thread homes. Check the controller, border router and actual sensor gap before selecting either. They report a state; they do not prove that a mechanical lock is engaged.
A camera can still be appropriate for a separate visual question. Keep those jobs distinct, and your basket can become smaller and clearer rather than turning every monitoring need into video.
Before you order
- Define opening state versus visual evidence.
- Check Thread infrastructure and mounting gap.
- Do not confuse closed with locked.
A useful next step
Select the opening sensor and verify how its state appears in your platform.
